Aboriginal and Archaeological Site Assessment

Aboriginal and Archaeological Site AssessmentAMBS Consulting can provide you with expert advice when a development impacts on an Aboriginal site. Recommendations are based on literature reviews and on-site surveys to specifically meet the requirements of legislative bodies and local Aboriginal community groups. AMBS Consulting will integrate Aboriginal archaeological studies with historical archaeology studies. We also have the ability to project manage historical archaeology components of large complex projects.

Our capabilities include the preparation of consent to destroy applications and identification and assessment of Aboriginal art, skeletal and secret/sacred collections. The Australian Museum's Aboriginal Heritage Unit controls the sensitive aspects of handling secret/sacred objects.

Our staff are experienced in undertaking large archaeological excavation projects, test excavation sites for assessment purposes and site management plans. Historical archaeological services can be sub-contracted and results integrated with our Aboriginal archaeological assessments.

The Australian Museum's Materials Conservation Division has years of experience in the treatment of archaeological material. The laboratories are equipped to offer a wide range of treatment and examination options. It is also well situated in an institution with extensive facilities and expertise for the analysis and identification of materials.

AMBS has completed numerous projects relating to:

  • Archaeological surveys
  • Open site excavation
  • Test excavation
  • Stone artefact analysis
  • Aboriginal Heritage Management Plans
