Environmental survey

Environmental SurveysAMBS Consulting can provide specialist advice on survey design and conduct extensive field surveys in terrestrial, marine and freshwater environments. Our capabilities range from vegetation and habitat assessments and preparation of threatened species assessments to surveys of all terrestrial fauna groups, including invertebrates. Our staff are experienced in remote area fieldwork including terrestrial, marine and freshwater survey and we use recognised methods such as:

  • Anabat II call detection,
  • bat (harp) trapping,
  • Elliot and Cage trapping,
  • hair tubes,
  • nocturnal bird call playback,
  • visual and auditory surveys of frogs and birds,
  • rapid assessment of rivers using macroinvertebrates,
  • interpretation of digital maps using our own GIS facilities.

We have certified Occupational SCUBA Divers (AS 2815.1 -- part 1), who comply with the strict standards of Australian Museum Protocols for safe diving. They are extensively experienced in underwater survey techniques for the collecting of flora and fauna data in marine, estuarine and freshwater environments. Underwater survey techniques include taking core samples, quadrats, transects, percent cover, visual censuses, and underwater photography.

Our searches of the Australian Museum's vast fauna database are invaluable for preliminary site assessments and environmental overviews and as a precursor to detailed investigations. The search results are made available to you in either digital or hard-copy format.
