Taxonomy

TaxonomyIdentifying organisms to species level requires specialised training, the latest taxonomic keys, and specialised equipment. Many of the Museum's and Garden's scientists have published diagnostic keys for numerous Australasian species. Our taxonomic capabilities pertain to the identification of both aquatic and terrestrial animals and plants from temperate or tropical regions. Specifically, we have taxonomic skills in the identification of:

  • Fish (including larvae)
  • Freshwater, marine and terrestrial invertebrates (including larvae/pupae)
  • Mammals
  • Birds
  • Amphibians
  • Reptiles
  • Vegetation

Clients may submit specimens to the Australian Museum for expert identification or we can send an expert taxonomist to your premise for Quality Control (QC) checks.
